My how quickly things change

Before I had a child I thought I had it all figured out about parenting.  When I had a child I would try to limit his or her use of the pacifier.  I would occupy their day with reading books, playing on the floor and patty-cake games. My child would never have a fit in public.  I wouldn't put them in a bouncer, or lay them on a toy alone for a few minutes, and I would NEVER, EVER put let them watch TV.

Once I became a mother, things quickly changed.   I've realized that the pacifier can be lifesaver! That while I treasure my playtime with my daughter, 12 hours of it a day can make someone go crazy.  Sometimes you just need a little mommy time, to sit and read, crochet or blog. ;-)  I learned that you can't, no matter how hard you try, control when or where a baby has a crying fit.  I also learned that kids love to play in bouncers and it doesn't make you a bad mom if you let them play in it while you to some chores, because guess what, if you don't you'll be living in a dirty house with no clean clothes to wear.  And the big one...I learned that at times where nothing else is working, Mickey Mouse Club House is literally a saving grace!  I know...*gasp* my daughter has watched some TV.

But guess what, I don't think this makes me a bad mom.  My daughter is happy.  She is always taken care of.  She is loved more than anything, and she loves right back, after all aren't these the things that are important.

I vow now, to never judge a mom about something she does with her child without knowing her circumstances.

Snow Days

Today, in NYC we finally got some snow.  Nothing big, but we don't really get it all the often, so when we do people freak out!  Anyway, my team was supposed to cheer at a basketball game today and then we were going to practice right after, but the school closed the gym from 12:00 on so I got a snow day!

Days like this make me sad to be a working mom.  It has been so great to just stay home with Olivia, knowing that I had no where to go all day long.  It's noon here and we're still in our pj's.  We've played all morning, mommy's gotten all her laundry done and now were getting ready to cuddle on the couch with an episode of Mickey Mouse Club House.  Today is one of those days that just makes we want to quit my job, live in a trailer (because that's all we'll be able to afford in NY with one salary) and stay home with my little girl every day!

My favorite part, I just sent the hubs out to the grocery store to pick things up for the week.  We're making pulled pork sandwiches for dinner.  So excited!

Introductions

I just want to start off my noting that I have absolutely no idea what I am doing or what I am getting myself into with this blog thing.  I have next to no time as it is right now so the obvious thing to do would be to take on yet another daily activity.  I guess we'll just have to see how it goes.

So I guess a few introductions are in order.  Some things that you should know about me...let's see.

First and foremost I am a new mom.  I have a 5 month old daughter named Olivia whom I absolutely adore.  She has brought me more joy over the past 5 months than I ever thought was possible.  I have an absolutely amazing husband that I love more than anything.  He really is my best friend and I can't imagine my life without him.  Cheesy I know, but it really is the truth.

We got married on July 3, 2009, he was 29 I was 28.  We found out we were pregnant on November 27, 2010 and have Olivia August 3, 2011 via C-section.  Although I didn't plan on having a C-section I really had an ok experience with it.  I was even IN my brother's wedding the day after I came out of the hospital.  Ah you do what ya gatta do right?

On top of being a full time mother, I am also a full time teacher.  I teach middle school Language Arts, but don't feel bad for me, I actually love my job.  I use to love it more before it took me away from my daughter for 7 hours a day, but I still love what I do.

As if that weren't enough, I also coach high school cheerleading.  I know what you're thinking, rah rah, pom poms, but it's not like that.  My team is highly competitive.  They practice 4-5 days a week, go to tumbling once a week and have to cheer at like 3 basketball games a week.  It's a really big commitment.  I've been coaching for 11 years now, but with my daughter here I'm finding it hard to balance all of this so I'm pretty sure this is my last year.

My husband and I bought my mother's house in June and we've been doing renovations since.  We added a floor and gutted the first floor.  It's a slow process but it's finally starting to come together and I can see that all this hard work will be worth it in the end.  For now, while our house is being built we are living in a very small one bedroom apartment with my mother's 2 dogs, so needless to say we are anxious to get into our house!

Well I guess that's all I really need to share up front, the rest will come out in my posts I assume.  I just hope I don't abandon this page!
